i was wondering is it possible to design the tattoos (sketch ideas/ draw illustrate) for a tattoo parlour/shop and not actually be the tattoo artist and actually use the needles to create the art?
do tattooists take other people on to design things for them ?

yes its called being a graphic designer
You possibly could be, but most artists probably prefer their own work. The thing about tattooing is they’re not designing on a flat piece of paper, they’re doing it on someones body, which changes the way things need to be shaped and drawn out. Also many people don’t know what will and won’t work on the skin and with the ink, you either need to be a tattoo artist or in that culture to know those things.

LikeDislikeMost good tattoo artists would not accept someone else designing work for them in that way.
A lot of customers ask for tattoos of existing pieces of art or a picture they have found which is fine, but it’s not like someone can draw a page full of tattoo ideas and give or sell them to tattoo artists to use..
Tattoo artists are just that.. artists.. and part of their job is designing their own work to permanently put onto someones body. Most tattoo artists have their own ‘flash’, which are basically pre-designed tattoos by themselves that the average joe customer can choose to get as a tattoo, whereas other people will give the artist their ideas and let them work with the ideas to create something custom.
Tattooing isn’t just a job, there’s a lot more to it.. the tattooist / customer relationship is a special one and it can’t be replicated by drawing tattoo ideas and selling them to any artist that will accept them in the hope that someone will want them on their body for the rest of their life.

But what they come up with may not always translate into a good tattoo, have a tattoo artist take a look at what they have come up with and see if they think it’s a good tattoo design for where the tattoo going. Tattooists often take ideas from other peoples design to make it more “tattooable”.
